Compact, effective, economical
I have had experience with professional IPL before; for many years I had treatments with great efficacy considering I have pretty much the ideal conditions for success with my very light skin and very dark body hair. Since I have reached the point in my treatments where, on most visible places, I am at the maintenance stage, and the others are places I prefer not to expose but still would like to work on privately, I decided to give this Mini IPL from Braun a try!Privacy is so important to me, and if you are also like me, there is nothing better than a home IPL device. Braun is a fantastic company whose products I have used in the past, so I knew the quality would be phenomenal, and my trust in its effectiveness would be proven true.The key to success is consistency; once per week and diligent application at a minimum for the fastest and best chance at lessening hair regrowth. Complete hairlessness is never achieved in an instant, and not every hair is on the same growth cycle simultaneously so that is why keeping a regular schedule with treatments is paramount.The device itself could not possibly be easier to operate and maintain. One button operation, no adjustments, or settings to mess with or change, could not be more perfect in that regard. I like that the button light indicates when the device is ready to activate, though getting into a rhythm can take some getting used to.It is very light weight, easy to hold and control, even if it does sometimes feel a bit wide in my hands.I love how tiny it is though, compared to some larger models I have seen. So easy to travel with and store. Everything fits neatly in the included pouch (I hang it all up on a hook in the bathroom), I do also make sure to keep the instruction manual folded up inside the pouch with the device. The instruction manual is clear and an easy read with some useful graphics, always good to keep around incase I want to make sure I am using the device optimally.I know they say that you do not need to wear eye protection with it necessarily, but I still suggest wearing some sunglasses at minimum or specialty goggles (there are plenty of great, inexpensive options on Amazon). Those are usually small enough I can fit them into the storage pouch as well so I do not forget about them; it is always better to be extra cautious, especially with your eyes. It makes it easier to actually look at what I am doing as well, as they still suggest turning away when activating the device.I suggest shaving a day before treatment, as that will allow for any irritation from the shaving to die down and not be irritated by the treatment itself (and accommodate for any accidental nicks). A little stubble is ok of course, but I also make sure my skin is clean, dry, and never apply lotion/creams/makeup beforehand. Waxing, plucking or epilating is not ideal in this situation, as you want to make sure the root bulb of the hair strand remains intact, for that is the area where the light disrupts the growth cycle of the hair. I would not suggest using depilatory creams either, as those may cause excess skin irritation that may be exacerbated by the light treatment.I would not say there is any particular pain associated with the treatment, but it does have a warm burn to it that, if you are very sensitive, may be uncomfortable to be sure. I keep some aloe gel in the fridge to apply afterward I finish my treatments if I happen to feel any lingering sting.For me, I feel like the advertised 13 minute session is a gross underestimation of the time needed for a full body treatment; I allot 30 minutes at minimum.I did not experience any prolonged redness or irritation at all after treatment, but I expected that, due to my experience with professional treatments.Compared to professional treatment, the one-time expense for this device is an absolute steal!The efficacy rate is going to greatly depend on a multitude of factors, such as consistency of use, skin pigment, hair pigment, hair density, and the stage of growth the hairs are in at the time of application. I generally see results immediately, but I suspect 1-3 months of weekly use should be anticipated for most people, especially if an irregular treatment schedule is kept.I always make sure to apply a liberal slather of sunscreen on any areas I have treated that may see the rays of the sun, and avoid using harsh toners or personal care products with acids or retinols for at least several days afterwards as well.I absolutely adore this little device! I can not say for how long this IPL will function, since I have only had it a month or so, but even if it lasted just a year it would still be economically sound for me to just buy a new one, over spending well over 4x that much in total on professional treatments every other month. I expect this device will last me much, much longer than that, so my bank account is very happy with my choices here!

Small device, surprisingly easy to stick with
I was surprised when I saw that there was only one button; I thought it would be more complicated. I remember using this for the first time and feeling anxious about the possibility of there being discomfort involved, but this couldn’t have been easier. I even do this pretty regularly now. I had already been through the discomfort of shaving, so it was nothing. I thought that the first time on my leg would be jarring and uncomfortable, but that was definitely not the case. And it’s so much easier when there are no batteries to worry about. I do wish this had more of an ability to control the intensity levels more for my upper leg, but the leg sensor is overall a nice feature, and it helps with the discomfort of the possibility of it only flashing when it has full contact with the skin. It’s definitely a nice feature when you’re not sure if you’re using it the right way. My biggest and most noticeable hair growth difference has happened after a few sessions. Hair that typically grows back after a matter of days has been coming in slower the last couple of times. At the same time, it hasn’t grown back and come in thicker. I feel like it is slowly and gradually getting better. I will say consistency is very important. Hair covering bigger patches, like the whole leg, isn’t an overnight success. You will need to adhere to the weekly schedule. Although the ease of having a small and compact device is very helpful for movement and control, the change of moving it across the skin is slower. I would say it is an at home treatment, and the process is easy. It’s been a good experience. You need to shave the area, then turn the device on and flash it at the area of treatment. It can take a little getting used to and the pace of the treatment, but it really can become part of your weekly self care.
