Two Babies, Zero Marks
Lots of people mention that this product is gritty. I did find that to be true but since I melt it down before use anyways it was not an issue for me. I will say that when I melt it down and recool it the oil becomes very smooth and easy to use. I used this for two pregnancies. I used this every day in both pregnancies. I rub it from my neck to mid thighs. I have no stretch marks from either pregnancy. No I am not one of those lucky people who just doesn’t get stretch marks. I know this because I have lots of stretch marks on my butt and outer thighs from gaining and losing weight in my early 20’s.This has made my old stretch marks harder to see and prevented me from getting any new ones. I went from 116 pounds to 150 my first pregnancy and still did not get a single mark on my stomach. I am a firm believer that this Shea butter is the reason why!Yes it is thick and oily. I just designated a few shirts to wear when I used it that I didn’t care about. This oil basically destroyed those. They always feel greasy no matter if you wash them. In my opinion it was a very small price to pay for the success of this product.

Gritty? Here’s a fix!
I almost didn’t buy this because of the “gritty” texture reviews but I read on multiple sites that it is NOT a sign of a bad product, that it’s just an issue of it melting then solidifying slowly. Mine was soft enough that I was able to easily get it out of the tub and into a glass bowl. I put about 2″ of water in the metal pot and set it to boil then put the glass bowl on top. It melted perfectly (took about 7-10 min to melt) then I poured it back into the tub and put it in the freezer for a few hours. The finished product is smooth shea butter that isn’t gritty at all.I’ve used this brand shea butter before and like that it doesn’t smell – that might mean it’s not unrefined but for my purposes it’s just fine. It’s great as a body cream, it soaks in quicker than you’d think and moisturizes wonderfully. I also like it as a lip balm. I wish it was available in a small container for purses but I can do that myself once I buy a small container.

Finally! And Excellent Shea Butter!
Just received my jar this morning and made my signature blend using it. It is a complete success. This shea butter has a wonderfully neutral odor, allowing the fragrant scent of my other oils to shine through. It also melted with ease, retaining its creamy texture and color as it re-solidified. Applying it to my skin was a supple enjoyment as it both retains moisture, while blending in quickly (with my added oils). I’m so glad I took a chance on Now, a brand I trust. Also, the reviews were highly informative, as many shared the butter’s lack of smell.

Smooth after some TLC
When it arrived the consistency was very lumpy but I just microwaved it for a bit and then chill it in the fridge over night. After I do this, it perfectly smooth. This is the softest my skin has ever been, especially during the winter.

Good moisture, chunky texture
I thought I was purchasing the Viva shea butter. This Now shea butter has a nice fragrance, it is moisturizing, however, it has a chunky, gritty consistency. I have to warm it up between my hands hands to get it smooth enough to apply to my skin. I’ll continue to use it, but I really would prefer a smooth creamy shea butter that is easy to apply to the skin.
